After Birth
An edgy television comedy about new moms
SEASON ONE
The Pilot- "Dorothy"
Written by Jean Parker

Maggie Boyle has been trying to make her way as an actress in Toronto for almost a decade. Just as she’s hit her stride; landing steady commercial work and being seen by big casting directors for hot, cutting-edge roles, she gets pregnant, and then pregnant again. Hurtling her back into the “struggling actress” category. The irony is now that she’s back to work auditioning, Maggie’s only being sent out for “Mom” roles. So what does a good mom look like? Certainly not this messy, mischievous, likes a good laugh and a cold beer closet-smoker, right? Convinced that a “good mom” wears matching sweater-sets and has her shit together, Maggie self-destructs in an audition while alienating her oldest and dearest friend Amy.
“Paul, I think our baby is ugly”. Or is it that all babies are ugly for Jill, a lawyer on her maternity leave who feels like she’s missing the whole “maternal” instinct. But what started as a harmless poke at an ugly baby gift raises serious questions in her relationship with her baby-daddy. Amy is determined to turn their band of misfit moms into a glorified Mommy’s Group, complete with themed days and bake sales. Regardless that neither Maggie, Jill, or herself like to bake, Amy embarks in recruiting a fourth member “We’d be an even number. Think about field trips” to become the quintessential mommy group.

After being dumped by a single girlfriend because she's "changed" since motherhood, Maggie questions her place in other childless relationships. Jill shockingly uncovers another physical side effect to childbirth while Paul struggles to understand her promiscuous ways.
Episode Four- “Redrum”

After Maggie and the boys encroach on Dave’s livelihood, Dave discovers his secret to dealing with small children; destroying inanimate objects. Jill learns that Paul has adjusted to parenthood by becoming an addictive shopper.
